Humans have the ability to select what they listen to and determine what they hear. To catch the attention of a person you must speak on something interesting or different from what they are used to hearing. To keep their attention you must vary your presentation. Motivational Seminars give you a process of trying to get a person to change or reinforce an attitude, belief, value, or behavior.
Most often you are actually influencing attitudes because beliefs and values are tightly ingrained in a person. One manner to change the attitude of a person is to present which conflicts with what the person believes to be true. The audience will tend to react by either:
- Attacking the credibility of the source
- Reinterpreting the message
- Seeking new information
- Stop listening
- Changing attitudes, beliefs, values, or behaviors by giving new ways and reasons for doing something
