Consultant and Strategic Planner
John Coyne has over twenty-two years of business management and consulting experience. He is an accomplished business executive with proven expertise in consumer brand development, sales management, international product sourcing, marketing research, and executive leadership. John has also worked as an interim manager in a turnaround situation and is an active member of the Turnaround Management Association.
After receiving his MBA from the University of Illinois in 1982, John began his career with the General Foods' subsidiary Oscar Mayer Foods Corporation in Madison, Wisconsin. During his four-year employment with that company he advanced through a progression of increasingly responsible marketing positions working in categories including processed meats, pickle products, and frozen foods. He held several challenging Oscar Mayer brand assignments where he learned consumer brand development skills such as product positioning, strategic marketing planning, and financial management, and applied these skills to achieve superior business results for the company.
In 1986, John was recruited by The Dial Corporation in Phoenix, Arizona, where he broadened his experience to include sales and international business development. He spent the first two and a half years building Dial's four detergent brands, increasing sales revenue over 40% by capitalizing on new distribution opportunities and developing new products for the emerging membership club trade channel. He then joined Dial's Sales department after it was reorganized to include a trade marketing function. In this newly created position, he was responsible for defining the roles and responsibilities for this trade marketing function and for training newly appointed field marketing reps in market research techniques, competitive strategy, and P & L management.
In 1999, John joined Information Resources, Inc., a global marketing research company and served as executive vice president and general manager of the company's West Area. Using a matrix organizational structure, he directed the activities of nearly one hundred client service personnel and managed the division's support personnel working in finance, human resources, analytic consulting, software consulting, and data delivery.
In 2002, John joined a former colleague from The Dial Corporation in the turnaround of a privately-held Midwestern food company, Meyer Foods, LLC. Serving as senior vice president of sales & marketing, he worked to strengthen the marketing activities and developed an aggressive sales expansion plan. Within 15 months, he increased topline sales by over 85% by expanding the distribution of flagship products and by broadening the product offering to include added-value products. Working together to execute a more aggressive business strategy, the team delivered the company's first profit in its six-year existence.
John professional corporate experience is able to bring a wealth of knowledge to any project.
